How to prepare broccoli, age by age
- 6 to 8 months
- Steam until very tender, then blend with cooking water to a smooth purée.
- 9 to 11 months
- Soft florets, mashed, or small pieces.
- 12 to 17 months
- Small soft florets — easy for little fingers to grip.
- 18 months and over
- Small bite-size florets.
Is broccoli an allergen?
Broccoli is not one of the main food allergens. Any new food can cause a reaction the first time it is offered, so give it on its own and stay with your baby while they eat.
Is broccoli good for babies?
Broccoli is a nutritional powerhouse — rich in vitamin C, vitamin K, folate, and sulforaphane, a compound studied for its anti-inflammatory and protective properties. Also provides calcium for bone development. Its slightly bitter flavour helps train babies to accept green vegetables.
