Can babies eat leek?

How you cut and serve leek changes as your baby grows. That is set out age by age below.
How to prepare leek, age by age
- 6 to 8 months
- Cook until very soft, blend into a smooth purée. Use the white and light green parts.
- 9 to 11 months
- Finely chopped and mixed into soft foods or mashed potato.
- 12 to 17 months
- Small soft pieces mixed into savoury dishes.
- 18 months and over
- Thinly sliced soft leek in cooked dishes.
Is leek an allergen?
Leek is not one of the main food allergens. Any new food can cause a reaction the first time it is offered, so give it on its own and stay with your baby while they eat.
Is leek good for babies?
Leeks are a member of the allium family, sharing many health benefits with onion and garlic. Rich in vitamin K, folate, and prebiotic fibre that feeds beneficial gut bacteria. Their mild, sweet flavour when cooked is far less pungent than onion — perfect for introducing allium flavours to babies.
