How to prepare teff, age by age
- 6 to 8 months
- Boil 1 part teff in 3 parts water for 15 min, stirring often. Blend until very smooth.
- 9 to 11 months
- Smooth teff porridge thinned with breast milk or formula.
- 12 to 17 months
- Slightly thicker porridge.
- 18 months and over
- Cooked as a porridge or mixed into other foods.
Is teff an allergen?
Teff is not one of the main food allergens. Any new food can cause a reaction the first time it is offered, so give it on its own and stay with your baby while they eat.
Is teff good for babies?
Teff is an ancient Ethiopian grain and one of the richest grain sources of calcium — exceptional for bone development. Also high in iron, resistant starch, and all essential amino acids. Naturally gluten-free. Its mild, slightly molasses-like flavour is more complex than other grains. Gaining popularity as a weaning food for its nutritional density.
