Can babies eat spelt?
Spelt can be offered once your baby has started solids, prepared to suit their stage. This is a common allergen (Gluten).

How to prepare spelt, age by age
- 6 to 8 months
- Soak overnight, boil until very soft, then blend into a smooth porridge.
- 9 to 11 months
- Smooth spelt porridge or spelt flour used in soft pancakes.
- 12 to 17 months
- Soft cooked spelt grains or spelt-flour pancakes cut into pieces.
- 18 months and over
- Normal grain serving.
Is spelt an allergen?
Contains gluten. Spelt is an ancient wheat and is not safe for those with coeliac disease.

Is spelt good for babies?
Spelt is an ancient grain with a nuttier, more complex flavour than modern wheat. Higher in protein, fibre, and certain minerals than refined wheat. Contains gluten — not suitable for coeliac disease. Its water-soluble fibre is easier to digest for many people than conventional wheat, making it a popular choice for sensitive stomachs.
