How to prepare sardine, age by age
- 6 to 8 months
- Drain canned sardines and mash thoroughly, checking for any bones.
- 9 to 11 months
- Mashed sardine mixed into vegetable or grain purées.
- 12 to 17 months
- Small flaked pieces mixed into other foods.
- 18 months and over
- Small pieces mixed into pasta or rice dishes.

Is sardine good for babies?
Sardines are one of the most nutrient-dense, sustainable seafood choices. Rich in DHA, EPA, calcium (from the soft bones), vitamin D, and B12. Canned in water (no salt) makes them instantly convenient. Their strong flavour is best introduced mixed into milder foods like sweet potato or avocado.
