- Grate over pasta, vegetables, and soft dishes. The strong flavour means a little goes a long way.
- 12 to 17 months
- Grated parmesan as a topping on meals, pasta, soups, and risotto.
- 18 months and over
- Use freely as a seasoning — parmesan adds umami flavour to many family dishes.
Choking risk
Always finely grate parmesan over food. Never offer chunks of hard cheese to babies as they are a choking hazard. Finely grated parmesan melts into food safely.

Is parmesan good for babies?
Parmesan is one of the most nutrient-dense dairy products for babies. A single tablespoon of finely grated parmesan provides a significant amount of calcium and protein. Because it is a hard, aged cheese, its lactose content is very low — often tolerated even by babies with mild dairy sensitivity. Its strong umami flavour adds depth to many baby meals.
