How to prepare green beans, age by age
- 6 to 8 months
- Steam until very tender, then blend with water until smooth.
- 9 to 11 months
- Mashed or finely chopped soft pieces.
- 12 to 17 months
- Small soft pieces, strings removed.
- 18 months and over
- Bite-size pieces they can pick up independently.
Is green beans an allergen?
Green Beans is not one of the main food allergens. Any new food can cause a reaction the first time it is offered, so give it on its own and stay with your baby while they eat.
Is green beans good for babies?
Green beans provide vitamins C and K, folate, and silicon — a trace mineral important for bone and connective tissue development. Their mild earthy flavour is a good step up from sweeter vegetables. Cooking them well removes the tough strings and makes them easy to eat at any stage.
