How to prepare buckwheat, age by age
- 6 to 8 months
- Cook groats in water until very soft, then blend until smooth.
- 9 to 11 months
- Smooth buckwheat porridge.
- 12 to 17 months
- Cooked groats mixed into soft foods.
- 18 months and over
- Cooked buckwheat served as part of their meal.
Is buckwheat an allergen?
Buckwheat is not one of the main food allergens. Any new food can cause a reaction the first time it is offered, so give it on its own and stay with your baby while they eat.
Is buckwheat good for babies?
Despite its name, buckwheat is completely gluten-free and not related to wheat. Rich in rutin — a bioflavonoid that supports healthy blood vessels and circulation. Also provides magnesium, manganese, and high-quality plant protein. Its earthy, nutty flavour can be mixed with sweeter foods for easy acceptance.
