How to prepare barley, age by age
- 6 to 8 months
- Simmer pearl barley in water until very soft, then blend.
- 9 to 11 months
- Well-cooked, soft barley mixed into purées.
- 12 to 17 months
- Soft cooked barley grains mixed into foods.
- 18 months and over
- Cooked barley served as part of their meal.

Is barley good for babies?
Barley is exceptionally rich in beta-glucan — a soluble fibre proven to support digestive health and a balanced gut microbiome. Also provides iron, selenium, and B vitamins. Contains gluten, so introduce carefully and watch for reactions. Pearl barley cooks faster and is softer than whole barley.
